"Brink of Doom" and other memories
One of the things I like best about eBay is that it allows me to revisit my youth in unusual ways. The primary way I do this is by buying books that I read on my frequent visits to the library throughout my childhood and teens. My particular passion was to read "teen" novels written in the fifties. Books by Betty Cavanna and Rosalind du Jardin and the like.
My particular favourites were a four book series about twins named Penny and Pam. A few summers ago, I haunted eBay to search out those books. I found the first three without too much trouble, but the third in the series proved to be rare. A ridiculous amount of money later, I owned all four. And it was worth every cent!
Another memory revisited courtesy of eBay was a television movie version of Jane Eyre starring George C. Scott and Susannah York. I had seen it when I was 12 or 13 and fell madly in love with Edward Rochester on the spot. I read Jane Eyre nearly immediately and have reread it regularly over the years. Still, it all began with that movie, which I found on eBay last year and bought.
It was dreadful. So what? It changed my life...or at least expanded my reading habits. And revisiting it was fun.
So...
Currently on auction is an extremely rare DVD of Brigadoon, another tv production, this one starring Robert Goulet and Sally Ann Howe. I wore out my parent's LP of this production, back in the days when I dreamed of being a soprano. I remember seeing the program, but only in dim memory. I can't honestly say if it was any good at all, although I know the music was. I want it, badly.
It is presently at $61.00 US, with 19 hours to go. Those experienced in eBay will know it will likely go much higher.
*Sigh*
I told myself (back when it was still only $31.00) that I would forego buying the skin cream that would set me back $75.00 and let myself bid. But, now, I just can't justify it. Nostalgia just exceeded my credit limit.

oh bummer! But I'm with you on that one. When bidding I do set an upper limit to avoid buyer depression afterwards.
*sigh*
Ahh, I'm sure once someone sees how much it got on E-bay others will follow and force the price down [/hopeful].
Well, it went for over $100. I just hope the seller was smart enough to make a gazillion copies and put them all up for sale at a later date.
